Place-Based Learning in Natural Elementary School

History records that, in about the last three hundred years, modern science has made significant advances in scientific findings, both at the theoretical and practical levels. But among the many discoveries in the world of science, many also give birth to new questions about things about reality, namely about the nature of the cosmos, the understanding of space and time, the nature of matter and energy or light, human consciousness, mind relations, and the body or subject-object relationship of knowledge, and includes questions about the essence of science itself (Heriyanto, 2003).
The development of science which is marked by the advancement of science and technology apparently does not entirely necessitate the disappearance of the problems of human life. Life problems that initially wanted to be solved by human beings with science and technology have actually made the problem even more complicated. Its development is leaving various kinds of crises, such as poverty, economy, political and information injustice, including the decreasing of health quality and lack of environmental awareness.
Education for children is conducted by inviting children in a real atmosphere through learning in the real natural environment. This form of teaching is conducted as an effort to oppose the form of teaching that tends to intellectualism and verbalism. According to Jan Lightghart, the main source of this form of teaching is the environment around children. Through this form of teaching, the activity of children who observe, investigate, and study the environment will grow. Real environmental conditions will also attract the spontaneous attention of children so that children have an understanding and wealth of knowledge that comes from their own environment. Teaching materials that exist in the environment around children will be easily remembered, seen and practiced so that teaching activities become functional in practice.

Ontology, Epistemology, and Axiology of Science in Elementary School

Various tools are developed by human beings to improve their life quality by implementing the knowledge gained. The process of discovery and implementation is one that produced from ax and stone at ancient times to computer at nowadays. Various problems that are deferred by human beings in challenging daily life and various thoughts have been produced as part of their cultural history. Although it seems very much and the diversity of thinking products, but in essence human efforts to gain knowledge are based on three main problems namely: What do we want to know? (Ontology) How do we obtain knowledge? (Epistemology) and what is the value of the knowledge for us? (Axiology).
The term science is a word that is often interpreted with various meanings, or contains more than one meaning. Science in the sense of natural science, is usually referred to in the expression "science and technology". Science literally derived from the Latin word scire which means to know. Therefore, science can be interpreted as a "situation" or facts to know, on similar level to knowledgewhich is the opposite of intuition or belief. Furthermore, the word science has experienced development and changes in meaning into "systematic knowledge that comes from observations, studies, and experiments conducted to find out the nature or principles of what is studied. In English, science is called science, which is derived from the latinscientia language from a verb scire which means to learn or to know (Surajiyo: 2010,56).
Thus, science which means "knowledge" changes to "systematic knowledge that comes from sensory observation." In subsequent developments, the scope of science is limited to the physical world, in line with other definitions of science as "systematic knowledge of nature and the physical world".
According to Charles Singer, science is a process which makes knowledge. As for the term science is a word that is often interpreted with various meanings, or contains more than one meaning. Science in the sense of natural science, usually referred to in the expression "science and technology"(Adib: 2011, 49)
