Ontology, Epistemology, and Axiology of Science in Elementary SchoolVarious tools are developed by human beings to improve their life quality by implementing the knowledge gained. The process of discovery and implementation is one that produced from ax and stone at ancient times to computer at nowadays. Various problems that are deferred by human beings in challenging daily life and various thoughts have been produced as part of their cultural history. Although it seems very much and the diversity of thinking products, but in essence human efforts to gain knowledge are based on three main problems namely: What do we want to know? (Ontology) How do we obtain knowledge? (Epistemology) and what is the value of the knowledge for us? (Axiology).
The term science is a word that is often interpreted with various meanings, or contains more than one meaning. Science in the sense of natural science, is usually referred to in the expression "science and technology". Science literally derived from the Latin word scire which means to know. Therefore, science can be interpreted as a "situation" or facts to know, on similar level to knowledgewhich is the opposite of intuition or belief. Furthermore, the word science has experienced development and changes in meaning into "systematic knowledge that comes from observations, studies, and experiments conducted to find out the nature or principles of what is studied.” In English, science is called science, which is derived from the latinscientia language from a verb scire which means to learn or to know (Surajiyo: 2010,56).
Thus, science which means "knowledge"
changes to "systematic knowledge that comes from sensory
observation." In subsequent developments, the scope of science is limited
to the physical world, in line with other definitions of science as
"systematic knowledge of nature and the physical world".
According to Charles
Singer, science is a process which makes knowledge. As for the term
science is a word that is often interpreted with various meanings, or contains
more than one meaning. Science in the sense of natural science, usually
referred to in the expression "science and technology"(Adib: 2011,
